PROFILE
South London based vocalist and producer Laura Bettinson has been involved in a wide array of creative projects ever since graduating from Goldsmiths (legendary launch pad for Blur, Katy B and James Blake), encompassing art, music, film and fashion.
Laura has fronted ultraÃsta, the band formed by Radiohead/Beck/Paul McCartney producer Nigel Godrich alongside drummer Joey Waronker
(REM/Beck/Smashing Pumpkins), and the outfit received huge praise from critics worldwide. Four Tet, Matthew Herbert and David Lynch have remixed the band, all re-imagining Bettinson's vocals in sublime fashion.
FEMME is Bettinson's solo project. Inspired by sixties girl groups and the attitude of artists like MIA, Debbie Harry and Cindy Sherman, FEMME combines a playful, avant-pop aesthetic with big, beat-driven music. Stella McCartney is already a fan, choosing FEMME to soundtrack her 2013 catwalk collection, and a growing number of music-lovers are joining her. Gearing up for the release of her debut album, FEMME has recently released on Next Plateau Entertainment her North American debut of “Fever Boy,†which has just garnered an iTunes front-page, pop-category AHEAD OF THE CURVE feature.
